We are your biggest cheer crew!
‘An all inclusive, women led skate club’
We Skate Soton CIC is a women-led, volunteer-run skate community, based in Southampton, open to all skaters of all backgrounds, levels and variety of wheels. We have skateboards, roller skates and long boards in our crew so far.
Skateparks can be pretty intimidating spaces when you’re starting out.
Our aim is to make parks and skate spots feel safe and a space that we belong in… a great way to do this is by skating in them with other people like us. Our meetups have a majority of women and girl skaters, and often a lot of brand new skaters, so do not feel intimidated, we are all learning together and making friends as we go! 💕
We have also organised several events over the last few years, bringing skating to new places and new people. You can find out more about these by heading to the ‘news’ section.
We meet every couple of weeks in skateparks all around the city. Our favourites include Bartley Park and Romsey Skatepark, and we are eagerly anticipating new parks within the city limits! At our meetups you can expect lots of laughs, tips and the loudest cheers in the park!
Everyone is welcome at our meetups. If you want to come skate with us but want to bring your friend or partner? No problem! We are attempting to break the boys club stereotype of skateboarding with a focus on challenging misogyny and stereotypes that have been attached to the skate scene, but that obviously doesn’t mean no boys allowed!
We want to help our community build confidence on their wheels and we think a great way to do that is by learning in a supportive environment, in a space that is primarily tailored to women’s experiences and led by women.
If you want to see what we’re about you can find us on Instagram and Facebook @weskatesoton, and if you want to get in touch via email it’s weskatesoton@gmail.com
We are always open to finding new ways to be as inclusive as possible so do not hesitate to get in touch with us if you think there is something we can improve upon! We are always open to learning and welcome your feedback!
Lots of love, Emily and Amy xoxo
Amy (she/her) got into skating in 2019, she found a pennyboard abandoned by the side of the road and thought ‘hey this is a fun way to get around!’ and soon she started zipping aorund town on a rusty black and green Penny Nickel. It wasn’t long however until she bought a ‘real’ skateboard and started practicing with some friends.
Whilst she loved skating with her friends, they were all men, and sometimes you just want to hang out with the girls! So GirlsSkateSoton was born… in the middle of lockdown… not the best time to be meeting up with lots of new people!
Soon life got in the way of her momentum and she called for help! A few awesome people came forward to lend a hand, including Anisa (@anisaansar) who got the girls rallied up for the M3 Trophy (@m3trophy) run by the lovely lads Alex (@costadelsolent) and Dex (@dexyo) and helped win the cup for the girls of Southampton! Sadly Anisa was off to uni, so more help was needed… This is where we meet Emily!
Emily (she/her) joined Amy in running girlsskate, and we couldnt have hoped for a more organised and driven human being! We rebranded to We Skate Soton to be more inclusive of everyone from all backgrounds, abilities and wheels! Emily has been an absolute powerhouse in organising events, meets and even hiring out Prevail Jr for just our crew. She’s a self confessed instagram nerd and loves to skate all the parks she can get to!
She started skating in the summer of 2021 after a friend booked a skate lesson for the two of them. And a new love was found! Emily had lots of skater pals when she was a teenager but never stepped on a board herself. Fast forward 20 years and she ordered herself a beaut Meow Skateboards set up and the rest is history!
