in 2024 and 2025 WeSkateSoton ran skate lessons and free skate sessions in the carpark of West Quay Shopping centre.
We had a skate area open to skateboarders, roller-skaters and inline skaters, featuring small skate obstacles. This was open all weekend, we mixed up the placement this year to make it a little different.
Multi Stories is a celebration of street culture, and saw the car park taken over by artists, small businesses, DJs, break dancers and skaters for the weekend. We were super excited to be invited back to organise the skate area for two years in a row!
Due to health and safety restrictions (the carpark has low ceilings) we skated outside and at the side of the West Quay car park, on the walkway leading to Ikea.
In 2024, we invited Cath from Shanko’s Skate School to run free taster lessons and Becky, one of our community members assisted too. The 30 min taster lessons ran over the weekend with all kit provide and were fully booked the whole time!
We finished with a limbo competition in the sun and it was the perfect way to end to the weekend!
In 2025 we continued with 30 min free taster lessons running over the weekend with all kit provided and 2 SBGB qualified coaches. Ida, founder of Get Up Skate School and Emily. We also invited Becky, one of our community members, back to assist too. The lessons were fully booked all weekend and we got over 50 people on boards!
